Florence Small | Call to the Sea

I often create work that draws from my imagination and emotional connection to my surroundings. As a child, my aunt taught me how to whistle with an empty periwinkle. The sound of the periwinkle continues to reference my connection with Oak Bay, NB. In Call to the Ocean, I bring a personal narrative to the landscape of Fundy National Park. Through an audio recording of the periwinkle whistle and photographs of the experience, I intended to capture the vastness of the Bay of Fundy from the beach in Alma and the endless maze of trees on the East Branch trail.
